Screenings & Evaluations
What does a screening consist of?
A screening takes approximately 30 minutes and looks at your child's overall speech, language, articulation, and social development through targeted activities, observation, and conversation with both your child and you.
Depending on your location, a screening can occur either online through video conferencing or in person.
What happens after the screening?
After the screening is completed, a detailed report will be provided with recommendations for next steps.
If your child does not pass the screening, a full evaluation will be recommended.
If your child does pass the screening, ways to continue to support their speech/language development will be provided.
How is a screening different than an evaluation?
A screening is a quick look at your child's speech, language, articulation, and social development.
An evaluation is approximately 1 hour 30 minutes long and is a deeper look at your child's speech, language, articulation, and social development through:

standardized tests developed to assess skill acquisition

an oral/motor examination to assess articulator strength, coordination, and function

observation

language sample to assess sentence structure, grammar development, and articulation during connected speech

interview of parent/caregiver/teacher, etc. to determine extent of difficulties

Both a screening and an evaluation include a meeting either in person, by phone, or by video conference to discuss results and possible next steps.

For all other insurance policies, Olive Speech Therapy, PLLC provides documentation that can be submitted for reimbursement. All insurance companies vary and speech/language therapy services may or may not be a covered benefit by your insurance.
