Will my child need an evaluation?
If you have concerns about your child's speech, language, social communication, or overall communication development, a comprehensive evaluation can help identify strengths, areas of need, and whether speech-language therapy may be beneficial. Not every child requires a comprehensive evaluation.
Evaluations are often recommended when a child is not meeting developmental milestones, has difficulty being understood, struggles to follow directions, or experiences challenges with social interactions or learning.
What should I expect in an evaluation?
Evaluations are typically scheduled for 90 minutes, although the appointment may take less time depending on your child's age, needs, and participation.
A comprehensive speech-language evaluation may include:

Standardized assessments to measure communication skills compared to age-based expectations

An oral-motor examination to evaluate the structure, strength, coordination, and function of the speech mechanism

Observation of your child's communication skills during play and interaction

A language sample to assess sentence structure, grammar, vocabulary, and speech intelligibility during natural conversation

Parent, caregiver, and/or teacher interviews to gather information about communication skills across environments

For all other insurance policies, Olive Speech Therapy, PLLC provides documentation that can be submitted for reimbursement.
